Senior Compensation Manager

SUMMARY: 

Exelixis is looking to hire a highly skilled Senior Compensation Manager to join its Human Resources team! Reporting to the Senior Director, Compensation you will partner with team members to manage the development, implementation, optimization, maintenance and communication of the company’s compensation programs, processes, tools and systems to ensure the achievement of equitable and competitive employee compensation in support of corporate objectives and in compliance with Local, State and Federal regulations and guidelines.

***This is an onsite role (Monday through Friday) based at our Alameda, CA headquarters.***

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide consultative support to HR team members and line management on compensation matters, including compensation recommendations, new and revised organizational structures, career ladders, job evaluations and descriptions, and the review and resolution of compensation related issues

  • Lead the development, implementation, refinement and administration of compensation programs, including job evaluation, salary administration, bonus, stock option, geographic differential and other pay programs

  • Conduct salary surveys, establish and maintain salary structures and job families, review current labor market trends/issues, and recommend changes to ensure ongoing competitiveness of pay programs

  • Develop salary, promotion, market adjustment, bonus and stock option budgets for consideration by company management and the Compensation Committee of the BOD

  • Lead the compensation systems selection, implementation, optimization, maintenance and communication efforts, including the compensation management system, total rewards application, and other systems and reporting to support business needs

  • Prepare, communicate and update policies and procedures related to the company’s compensation programs

  • Develop curriculum and educate hiring managers on key compensation programs, philosophy, and use of tools and systems

  • Provide support to due diligence efforts during any M&A activity

  • Participate in the development, implementation, refinement and administration of executive compensation and BOD compensation programs. Research and prepare special studies, presentations and recommendations for management and/or the Compensation Committee of the BOD on subjects such as executive compensation packages and peer comparisons, custom relocations, bonus programs, stock option guidelines, etc.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS:

Education:

  • BS/BA degree in related discipline and at least 9 years of related experience; previous experience in the BioTech industry is preferred

  • Equivalent combination of education and experience

Experience:

  • Previous experience in other HR areas including HRIS, Benefits, and Payroll preferred

  • A demonstrated history of success in supporting client groups

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Experience in relevant industry/profession and has advanced understanding and wide application of technical principles, theories, concepts and techniques in area of specialization

  • Apply professional concepts and good judgement to perform and resolve a variety of complex issues and tasks in creative and effective ways with outstanding attention to detail and high level of accuracy

  • Apply strong organizational, project management, analytical and business communication skills with the ability to present data in an understandable format

  • Advanced interpersonal and customer service skills with the ability to interact with employees at all levels within the organization

  • Ability to be proactive with excellent follow through and work well in a team setting

  • Advanced Excel and data management skills with particular focus on modeling and the use of advanced features

  • Previous experience with HRIS, Compensation Planning, and Market Analysis systems is preferred

  • Advanced PowerPoint skills is a plus

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several U.S. geographic markets, and we pay differently based on those defined markets. The base pay range for this position is $149,000 - $212,000 annually. The base pay range may take into account the candidate’s geographic region, which will adjust the pay depending on the specific work location. The base pay offered will take into account the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, experience and internal equity, among other factors.

In addition to the base salary, as part of our Total Rewards program, Exelixis offers comprehensive employee benefits package, including a 401k plan with generous company contributions, group medical, dental and vision coverage, life and disability insurance, and flexible spending accounts. Employees are also eligible for a discretionary annual bonus program, or if field sales staff, a sales-based incentive plan. Exelixis also offers employees the opportunity to purchase company stock, and receive long-term incentives, 15 accrued vacation days in their first year, 17 paid holidays including a company-wide winter shutdown in December, and up to 10 sick days throughout the calendar year.
